History

F.A.X. has produced a number of networking and fundraising events throughout the years. Some of the most memorable have been in association with The Fashion Institute of Technology.

In 2002 the honoree was Mr. Andre Leon Talley, with presentations by Iman, Toukie Smith, Harriet Cole and Audrey Smaltz, among others.

In 2003 we honored Naomi Sims; Susan Taylor (remember when you saved us  during  that show?), Eileen Ford and Stephen Burrows were just a few of the supporters in attendance.

In 2004 the theme was “Paradise” when we honored Geoffrey Holder and his wife, Carmen De Lavallade, along with many other noteworthy pioneers in the fashion and art fields. We were greatly honored to have Dianne Carroll presenting to Mr. Holder while Phylicia Rashad presented to Ms. De Lavallade.

In 2005 we honored two men whom we called “Trailblazers”: Damon Dash and Gordon Parks.

In 2007, we co-hosted Black History Month at F.I.T. with the Gospel Choir and Asian Network clubs. We called our portion of the evening YT&T (Yesterday, Today &Tomorrow) and honored three black designers: Jon Higgins, Edward Wilkerson and Mychael Knight.

Most recently, we had the pleasure of presenting the Essence Magazine Editor in Chief, Constance White , with our 2011JUNETEENTH Career of Excellence award.
